Natural Hardwood Floor Cleaner
Even though we do not recommend the use of home-made natural hardwood floor cleaner for your beautiful hardwood
flooring, these cleaners are cheap to make and are non-toxic and environmentally friendly.
However it is best to test out the natural solution on a small portion of flooring first.
There are many types of natural solution that you can make at home:
1. Vinegar
and lemon
This type of solution is best used to clean bare wood flooring and should not be used to clean varnished
floors. A very simple formula is to dilute one half
cup of vinegar or lemon juice in one full gallon of warm water. Because of the acidic nature of the solution, the
flooring could be dulled out eventually.
2. Olive
oil or vegetable oil
It is common to mix equal parts of olive oil and vinegar, or two parts oil to one part of lemon juice. Using a dry
mop, rub the floor with the solution and finish it off with a dry clean cloth. The downside of this solution is oil
will collect on the surface of the flooring and becomes slippery.
3. Essential
oils
Using essential oils is more eco-friendly and with its anti-bacterial properties, it could be the choice of many
hardwood floor owners. A simple formula is to mix 10 drops of essential oil for one gallon of warm water.
To be 100% sure of the results of cleaning your beautiful hardwood flooring, we would still recommend the use of
professionally prepared cleaners manufactured by various well known companies.
